Husband Coached Childbirth: The Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth
Robert A. Bradley, Marjie Hathaway, Jay Hathaway, James Hathaway, 2008.
This read is not only informational, it's pretty fun too. MD Bradley has a great sense of humor and has a really unique way of expressing the keys of natural childbirth!
Doctor Bradley was one of the first Doctors to support husbands presence in the birth room. He found that with the husband (or partner) by her side, mama was much more relaxed and able to birth baby without interventions. But when he started training the dad's to "take over" and do the coaching....it was inspiring!
Some Main Ideas:
* Birthing Like a Mammal
Bradley concentrates much of this book on the facts of other laboring mammals. How do they have their litters of pups, kittens, rabbits, a foel?
By considering other mammals birthing habits and instincts Bradley began to realize some key aspects of natural birth. Although human's may not have the same instinctual cues while giving birth, we can learn them!
* "Daddy Helped Born Me"
The other largest idea that is threaded throughout this book, is the key role the father plays in his child's birth. Daddy matters. Even if he is just a presence in the room--he matters. But Bradley calls fathers to be more then just onlookers, he calls them into participation! And with great explanations, how-to's and the why's of "Husband Coached Childbirth", Bradley welcome's the father into the delivery room to "born" their own children.
Bradley goes through the different stages of labor, but he also goes into depth on what to expect of your wife during and after baby is born. There are great resources and thoughts on other subjects as well!
I'd say, READ THIS BOOK!
